Partridge Creek Farm to extend growing season with grant

ISHPEMING, MI— Partridge Creek Farm has been awarded a $100,000 USDA Farm to School grant.

The money will allow PCF to build a hoop house on its Intergenerational Farm to extend the growing season for vegetables. They’ll be used in the Ishpeming School cafeteria.

The Ishpeming Public School District will act as fiscal agent.

Another portion of the funding will support the continuation of writing and implementation of a new pre-K through 8th-grade curriculum that will be integrated into Ishpeming classrooms.

Partridge Creek Farm’s Farm-to-School program began in 2013. It provides weekly, year-round nutrition, cooking, and gardening education to 5th- and 6th-graders.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
