Demolition contractor selected for old Marquette General Hospital site

MARQUETTE, MI— The NMU Foundation and City of Marquette have selected a contractor for the demolition of the old Marquette General Hospital site.

Detroit-based Adamo Group was the lowest of seven bidders. Adamo and the Foundation entered into a demolition services agreement on June 12th after finalizing approvals with funding partners.

Demolition will happen in two phases: Phase 1 includes hazardous material removal and demolition of all structures south of College Avenue. Phase 2 includes the Neldberg Building and Blood Bank Building after UPHS-Marquette relocates its operations from those sites.

Adamo will hold a public forum on the project when it mobilizes on-site this month or next.

Adamo plans to repurpose and recycle up to 95 percent of the material. Officials say that will avoid significant landfill disposal while mitigating project expenses.

The company intends to hire locally to execute the project.
