Road-fixing funds headed to small UP towns

LANSING, MI— Four Upper Peninsula towns with populations less than 10,000 are getting state grants to fix area roads.

The money comes through the Community Service Infrastructure Fund Category B Program. It serves as a stop-gap program to help fund road projects in small communities.

Bessemer is getting $64,979 to improve Cinnabar Street. The village of South Range will receive $116,000 for Whealkate Drive. Crystal Falls is getting $250,000 for projects on several different streets. And the City of Menominee will receive $240,000 to fix various streets citywide.

The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
