Capt. Lowell Larson named new undersheriff of Marquette County

Marquette County Sheriff's Office

MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette County has a new undersheriff.

Captain Lowell Larson has been with the department since 1999. He served seven years with the Corrections Division and six years as a detective.

Larson is currently the captain of the Road Patrol Division, which also oversees court security and the Detective, Special Operations, Technical Rescue, Dive Team, and Search and Rescue Divisions.

Captain Larson spent 10 years as a Search and Rescue volunteer and has performed as a Field Training Officer and Medical Examiner Investigator. He is also trained as a firearms instructor and armorer, and has been active in various instructor roles.

Larson replaces former Undersheriff Dan Willey, who passed away on July 11.

Sheriff Greg Zyburt says he’s confident Larson will continue to provide remarkable service to the citizens of Marquette County in his new role.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
