ISHPEMING, MI— Michigan National Guard officials and state Senator Ed McBroom will attend a groundbreaking to update the Ishpeming Armory Wednesday.
The ceremony will highlight work that’s set to begin to modernize the facility for women soldiers. It includes a new shower, toilet facilities, and a lactation room.
When the armory was constructed in 1962, the Michigan Army National Guard was primarily male and facilities were designed with that in mind. The project will cost about $6.28 million.
The Ishpeming Armory is one of 33 facilities across Michigan that is targeted for modernization. The ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
