New parking system being installed in Downtown Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— The City of Marquette is changing out its parking meters.

The 33 new parking pay stations will need a license plate number and will continue using coins or credit/debit cards. They’ll offer the option of 15 minutes free or a dollar an hour.

The new 4G/5G-compatible technology will replace more than 300 meters in the downtown area. Drivers can also use the Passport Parking app to enter their vehicle's information, find a sign near where they’re parked indicating the zone number, choose the amount of time they'd like to park, and pay with their phone.

The public can park for free while the current meters are deactivated and removed.

The new system will be in place later this month.
