Using identity to create a relevant voice in music

UPDATE: This Friday's NMU Siril Concert Series event (featuring Adam Sadberry - flute) has been CANCELLED as a result of travel issues due to inclement weather.  The Department of Music hopes to reschedule Adam Sadberry's appearance at NMU for the Fall 2022 semester.

If you have purchased tickets for this event, you can request a refund or exchange (for next month's Siril concert) by contacting the NMU Ticket Office: tickets@nmu.edu or 906-227-1032.  Refunds or exchanges must be processed by Wednesday, March 16 @ 5pm.

Flutist Adam Sadberry will perform at Northern Michigan University on Friday, February 18th at 7:30pm EST. As a performer in the Siril Endowment for the Musical Arts Series, he becomes one of many musical artists to help expose students to a wide variety of music genres.

Adam is principal flutist in the Memphis Symphony, having received his bachelor's degree from the Eastman School of Music. He also spent time as African-American Orchestra Fellow with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

He tells a musical story as "musical journalism," to expand awareness on equity, representation, music education and of the black diaspora. He also presents Using Your Identity to Create a Relevant Voice in Music, a presentation which helps musicians "use their experiences and perspectives as a catalyst for change through music."

We spoke with Adam to get an insight on his performance history, his musical journalism, and what to expect from the recital at NMU:

Kurt lives in Marquette with his family and can’t imagine living anywhere else. He loves music, games, running, being near water, and a fine cold brew coffee.
