Talking with Oskar about how his musicianship landed him an opportunity to perform at Prague Summer Nights

Bassoonist Oskar Gaenssle has an opportunity to perform overseas in the summer of 2022 but needs some help to get there.

Oskar is pursuing his degree in music at Northern Michigan University and plays bassoon. He is actively involved in multiple ensembles in the area, including NMU music ensembles, the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, and Marquette City Band. He's also active with community theater, performing in the pits of the Vista Theater and Superior Arts Youth Theater.

He has an opportunity to perform with the Prague Summer Nights opera festival in its 2022 season. The festival runs from June 20th to July 19th, with performances of two Mozart operas (Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni).

The program offers opportunities for performance, masterclasses, and coaching sessions. Oskar passed his audition and was offered a spot to perform in the festival orchestra.

Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Oskar about his musicianship over the years, his time with NMU's Department of Music, his senior recital, and his opportunity to perform with the Prague Summer Nights Young Artists Music Festival:

Oskar has launched a Go Fund Me for assistance in paying the costs of attendance.

Kurt lives in Marquette with his family and can’t imagine living anywhere else. He loves music, games, running, being near water, and a fine cold brew coffee.
