The Walloon Writers Review, a collection of writings and photography celebrating the rich tapestry of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, is gearing up for its ninth edition. Editor Jennifer Huder recently joined us to discuss this year's call for submissions and the review's unique role in capturing the essence of our Upper Great Lakes area.
Founded in 2014 by Huder, the Walloon Writers Review was envisioned as a platform to showcase the stories, poems, and photographs inspired by the landscapes of Northern Michigan. "The region's beauty and diversity never cease to amaze," Huder shared. "We aim to create a space where the myriad of experiences and perspectives can be shared and appreciated."
The review is currently inviting submissions from both seasoned and emerging writers and photographers. Huder and her co-editor, Glen Young, are particularly interested in works that highlight the unique characteristics of the region. "We want to reimagine how the landscape influences creativity," Huder explained. "Whether it's a short story, memoir, or nature photography, we are looking for submissions that reflect the distinctiveness of our area."
Kurt Hauswirth discussed the Walloon Writers Review with editor Jennifer Huder:
