Kasich says the race isn't over

MARQUETTE, MI--   John Kasich says the fight for the Republican nomination is far from over.

During a stop in Marquette Saturday afternoon the Ohio governor said no candidate is going to the convention with enough delegates.

"Now, it's not mathematically impossible for me to get there with enough, but it really is, 'cause it's like 68 for me, Marco's like 64, Ted like 60, and I don't think Trump's going to get enough.  If I beat him in Ohio he's absolutely not."

Kasich it will be interesting to see what happens within the Republican Party at its July convention in Cleveland.

"Now, what's key to it is, no smoke-filled rooms.  None of this nonsense because you want to leave a convention unified, not divided.  And I'm not going to tell you for sure that's going to happen, but you never know in politics what might happen.  So, um, we'll see."

Kasich told a crowd at Marquette’s Ramada he loved being in the U.P.  He said the area needs to continue its mining tradition, but also needs to branch out and develop small businesses.

“We don't want to give up on manufacturing, but we want to diversify the U.P. so you can be more than just a one trick pony.”

Kasich is currently polling fourth in a recently narrowed field.

Michigan's primary is Tuesday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
