168 new coronavirus cases confirmed in the UP

MARQUETTE, MI--   A slowdown in the state’s software system resulted in additional COVID-19 cases in Thursday’s numbers that could have been attributed to Wednesday.

The glitch was repaired and no information was lost, but Thursday’s tally represents a new record for the U.P. and the state. Thursday afternoon’s Upper Peninsula case count increased by 168.

The number by county is as follows:

  • Chippewa-2
  • Delta-23
  • Dickinson-22
  • Gogebic-1
  • Houghton-12
  • Iron-4
  • Luce-5
  • Mackinac-4
  • Marquette-77
  • Menominee-11
  • Ontonagon-1
  • Schoolcraft-4

One death was reported in Delta County and one in Houghton.
As of Thursday afternoon the U.P. has confirmed 3,829 cases of the coronavirus during the pandemic. Sixty-three people have died.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
