3-alarm fire at Marquette storage facility

MARQUETTE, MI--   Firefighters spent nearly eight hours trying to extinguish a warehouse fire in Marquette Thursday morning.

A report came in around midnight that a structure at the corner of Hawley Street and Presque Isle Avenue was in flames. After firefighters arrived the large storage garage became fully engulfed. The Incident Commander then called a third alarm for additional personnel.

Firefighters worked to control the original blaze as well as protect homes around the warehouse. One family was evacuated and is being helped by the Pigs-n-Heat Fire Relief Fund.

Thirty-one firefighters battled the blaze. No injuries are reported.

The Marquette City Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Marquette Police Department, the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Chocolay Township Fire Department, the Red Cross, the UPHS Ambulance crew, Semco Gas Company, the Marquette BLP, and the Marquette City Public Works Department.

The amount of damage is unknown at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
