The Hiawatha Music Co-op is proud to present a weekend of family fun at the Tourist Park in Marquette on July 19 through July 21 featuring music, dance, craft, and food. The 35th Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival begins with a Get Acquainted Dance on Friday night at 7:30 with foot stompin’ bands. The good times continue throughout the weekend with music workshops featuring local, regional and national performers on
Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10am. There will be a Children’s Area with music and crafts, and a Teen Scene with activities throughout the weekend and a dance on Saturday night. A variety of food vendors and craft artisans will also be on hand. The Main Stage performances begin on Saturday morning at 11am. The featured artists throughout the weekend include Bonsoir Catin (Cajun), Craver, Hicks, Watson, Newberry (old-timey group), The Door Cats (local), Antje Duvekot (female singer/songwriter), Ironweed(bluegrass), John Gorka (Hiawathan favorite), Kaivama (Finnish/ American group), blues favorite Charlie Parr, Royal Garden Trio, (swing band) and Irish/American band,Solas and dancers, The Costabella Cloggers. The Teen Scene will include a dance on Saturday night with local favorite Sparrow Tree and Rootstand and there will be crafts and other activities designed for teens. The youngest festival-goers will enjoy a busy line-up in the Children’s Area, with child-friendly crafts, workshops, music, stories, a Maypole and the Sunday-afternoon Kids Parade to the main stage.
Another Festival tradition is the Artists in the Round, an art and craft show and sale, coordinated by the Oasis Gallery in Marquette. This year’s AITR will feature artists and crafters selling wonderful assortment of wares. Added this year is a Young Artist Corner where Hiawatha youth can display and sell their handmade art and craft items.
