Accused Escanaba gunman arraigned on numerous charges

ESCANABA, MI--   Escanaba Public Safety has released the name of the gunman who barricaded himself inside a city apartment Tuesday night.

Officers say David Tebear, 54, initiated a standoff with police that lasted until 5:40 a.m. Wednesday. He was taken into custody without incident.

Tebear was arraigned Wednesday on the following charges:

  • Malicious damage of property, $1,000 to $20,000
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Felony firearms
  • 2 counts of resisting and obstructing an officer
  • Possession of a weapon with unlawful intent

Tebear remains lodged in the Delta County Jail on 10 percent of a $10,000 cash/surety bond for the malicious damage to property charge and $100,000 cash/surety for the remaining charges.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
