Airports get federal money for upgrades

WASHINGTON, D.C.--   Two Upper Peninsula airports are getting grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation to enable safer travel.

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced the Houghton County Memorial Airport will receive more than $856,000.  The money will be used to rehabilitate its concrete apron, where the aircraft are parked.

And the Economic Development Corporation of Chippewa County is getting just over $71,000 for new snow removal equipment at Chippewa County International Airport.  Peters says the funding will improve airport operations when severe weather strikes.
