UP airports get money from FAA, CARES Act

MARQUETTE, MI--   Three Upper Peninsula airports are getting federal funding to make improvements.

An $8.7 million Federal Aviation Administration grant is supplemented by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act to support airports affected by COVID-19.

The Delta County Airport will receive more than $1.8 million dollars to install an emergency generator and reconstruct runway lighting. Ford Airport is getting over $3 million to rehabilitate runways. And Sawyer International Airport will receive more than $3.7 million to construct, improve and repair utilities.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
