Alger County officials rescue crashed snowmobiler

MELSTRAND, MI--   A snowmobiler has been injured in Alger County.

Sunday around 11:10 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Trail #8 near Melstrand.

Investigation reveals the driver was westbound when he left the trail and struck a tree. The man was extricated from the scene by Alger County Rescue 21 and taken to Munising Memorial Hospital. He was later transferred to UPHS-Marquette by Valley Med Flight.

Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the accident.

The driver’s name is being withheld at this time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
