Aramark employee at U.P. prison convicted of soliciting assault

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)--   A food supervisor who worked at a U.P. prison has been convicted of trying to have an inmate assaulted.

Michael Young, 27, of Kincheloe was convicted of solicitation to commit assault with intent to cause great bodily harm Thursday in Sault Ste. Marie, following a two-day trial.

The Michigan Attorney General's office says Young was working for Aramark at the Kinross Correctional Facility when he asked an inmate to recruit another inmate at a different prison to commit an assault.

Investigators say Young was targeting someone who was involved in the death of a family member.

The Attorney General's office says Young had offered tobacco products.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
