Autopsy contract reached between DCHS and county

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   The Dickinson County Board of Commissioners and Dickinson County Healthcare System Board of Trustees have reached an agreement on the performance of autopsies at the hospital.

DCHS has outsourced its pathology services to Medical Lab Associates of Marquette. Officials said the hospital had been performing such services without a contract and without reasonable volume, and a decision was made to control costs.

During Thursday’s meeting DCHS agreed to give Dickinson County’s medical examiner access to the morgue to perform requested law enforcement case autopsies. The contract also gives the county time to evaluate the long-term options available for managing future requested autopsies for law enforcement.
