Bay College making changes to cut costs

ESCANABA, MI--   Lower enrollment, higher healthcare costs, and a projected budget deficit are forcing officials to reorganize at Bay College.

Current Vice President of Finance Kevin Carlson will take over leadership of Bay West in Iron Mountain.  Two full-time instructor positions will be eliminated on the Escanaba campus, and retiring employees won’t be replaced, whenever possible.  Officials say they’ll streamline processes with technology, realign positions, and use temporary or student workers where appropriate.  Areas that are the most affected are the business office, student services, administrative support, research, and custodial services.

President Laura Coleman says Bay College will continue to focus on Dual Enrollment and Early College opportunities for area high school students.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
