Be Local, Buy Local returns

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette County residents can get more than just their purchases when they buy local.

The Marquette Chamber of Commerce and Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Chamber of Commerce are relaunching last year’s Be Local, Buy Local program. Jason Schneider is the Marquette Chamber Executive Director. He says people can download an app that takes a picture of a receipt from a county business, which lets the chambers know they’ve shopped locally.

“Every time they do that they get entered into a drawing,” he says, “and then every week we give away $100 on a gift card that’s a Be Local, Buy Local gift card, usable at any of the local participating businesses.”

Schneider says 2,100 people used the app last year and the chambers tracked nearly $600,000 in sales to local businesses. He notes this year’s program will extend past the holiday season to year ‘round.

To download the app, go to belocalbuylocal.today, or bring your receipts to either chamber office to be entered in the program.
