"Bioathlon" held at Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, MI--   Michigan Technological University is holding its 30th Annual Bioathlon Competition Wednesday. 

More than 50 students from 13 high schools in the U.P. and Wisconsin will compete in the event, which aims to stimulate interest and problem solving in biology among high school students.

Four-person teams will compete in four different biological areas: dissection, medical laboratory science, field ecology and forensic science. Participants have not had formal class work in biology beyond the traditional sophomore high school general biology course.

The top three teams will win cash prizes.

  • Hancock
  • Houghton 
  • Luther L. Wright (Ironwood)
  • Jeffers (Painesdale)
  • Lake Linden-Hubbell
  • Laona (Wisconsin)
  • Negaunee
  • West Iron Co.
Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
