KI SAWYER, MI-- A Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office satellite office for domestic violence victims and survivors is now open at KI Sawyer.
The space is part of the multi-year Blueprint for Safety Domestic Violence Project. It has a secure entrance and two secure offices: one for a Domestic Violence Advocate and another for law enforcement from Forsyth Township, Michigan State Police, and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. A third, “soft space” can be used for support and focus groups.
Chief Prosecutor Matt Wiese says the location was selected because more than 23 percent of all charged domestic violence cases in the county originated in the KI Sawyer area in 2017.
Officials hope access to advocacy and an enhanced law enforcement presence in the area will increase safety and help those victimized by domestic violence to have access to needed services.
The Sawyer Blueprint Office is funded by a Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women Rural Grant.
