Brimley man involved in fatal downstate crash

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI--   An Upper Peninsula man is being blamed for a fatal two-vehicle accident in downstate Grand Traverse County.  

The crash happened Tuesday around 1:30 a.m. on US-31 South.  Sheriff’s deputies say an eastbound vehicle driven by a 37-year-old Brimley man crossed the centerline and hit a westbound vehicle.  A 71-year-old Florida woman was pronounced dead at the scene.  Three other people in the westbound vehicle were taken to Munson Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The Brimley man is charged with driving while license suspended, driving while license suspended, causing death, and driving while license suspended, causing injury.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.  Roads were icy at the time of the crash.   

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
