Calumet woman dies after Houghton County crash

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Calumet Sunday.

Houghton County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 7 p.m. to US-41 and Church Street. They say a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Dollar Bay man was southbound when it collided with a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old Calumet woman that was turning northbound.

The man and his 25-year-old female passenger were taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. He was treated and released, while she is in stable condition.

The Calumet woman and two juvenile passengers were transported to Aspirus Keweenaw. She was then airlifted to UPHS-Marquette, where she succumbed to her injuries Monday morning.

US-41 was temporarily closed while the scene was cleared.

The accident remains under investigation. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office at 906-482-0055.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
