Car hits motorcyle in Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   A Breitung Township man was injured when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car in Iron Mountain. 

City Police say the crash happened Tuesday just after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Carpenter Avenue and West D Street. A 19-year-old Florence, Wisconsin man was westbound on D Street in a passenger car when he stopped at the stop sign. He then tried to turn south onto Carpenter when he struck a northbound motorcycle driven by a 46-year-old Breitung Township man.

The motorcyclist was taken to Dickinson County Healthcare System for treatment of his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Iron Mountain Police and Fire Departments were assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police, the Kingsford Public Safety Department, and the Iron Mountain Department of Public Works.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
