Casperson running for Benishek's seat

ESCANABA, MI--    State Senator Tom Casperson has announced he’s running for the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a Monday press release the Escanaba Republican said he’s entering the race for the 1st District seat currently held by Republican Dr. Dan Benishek, who is retiring at the end of his term.

He says he wants to bring “common sense” to the nation’s Capital.

“We only see now Washington ramping it up even more and trying to regulate us even more and really change our way of living up here in Northern Michigan.  So the fight is the same; it’s just that now it’s moving into Washington, and quite frankly what we need to do is get Washington to listen to us loud and clear.”

Casperson was elected to the Senate for the 38th District in 2010.  He served in the Michigan House for six years before that.

He currently chairs the Senate Transportation and Natural Resources committees.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
