CCI resolution passes MI House

LANSING, MI--   The Michigan House has approved a resolution supporting Cleveland Cliffs’ return to the Upper Peninsula.

Sponsored by Representative Sara Cambensy, the resolution is meant to persuade

CCI to reopen the Empire Mine, which closed in 2016. The company is deciding if it will return to Michigan or construct a new mine in Minnesota.

Cambensy and Representative Scott Dianda testified Tuesday in support of the resolution, which was then approved by the full House.

A senate version of the measure was sponsored by Senator Tom Casperson. Cambensy says she will present both versions to Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves Thursday.
