Chaperon waives preliminary hearing on embezzlement charge

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A Rapid River woman accused of embezzling from an assisted living facility in Schoolcraft County has waived her preliminary hearing.  

Jana Chaperon, 39, is charged with embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000 and using a computer to commit a crime.

Chaperon was the former director of the Woodland Meadows Assisted Living Facility.  She resigned her post last summer before the facility was sold by Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.

The embezzlement charge is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.  A circuit court arraignment date has not yet been set. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
