Chocolay Township officer involved in traffic crash

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Chocolay Township Police officer was injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened on US-41 near Kunde Road around 6:45 p.m.

Officer Anthony Carrick was turning his police cruiser left onto Orchard Lane when he was broadsided by Subaru traveling behind him. Both vehicles went into the ditch.

Officer Carrick was taken to UPHS Marquette, treated and released.  The driver of the Subaru—a 68-year-old man from Rapid River—refused treatment.  He was later taken into custody on suspicion of drunken driving and lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

The accident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
