Clear your hydrants, officials say

MARQUETTE, MI--   Officials across the Upper Peninsula are asking residents to help keep fire hydrants clear of snow.

Manistique Public Safety says heavy snowfall is keeping Department of Public Works personnel busy with clearing the streets for travel. Police say the digging out of fire hydrants may not begin until early next week.

Public Safety asks residents to locate their nearest fire hydrant and dig it out so it’s visible to firefighters.

The Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department is also asking for the public’s help in clearing fire hydrants. Officials say residents should keep snow and ice three feet away from the hydrants so firefighters can get to them quickly. They say doing so will do much to protect people and property.
