Cliffs, union reach tentative deal

ISHPEMING, MI--   Cleveland Cliffs, Incorporated and the United Steelworkers Union have reached a tentative contract.

If ratified, the new contract will cover about 1,800 workers at the Tilden and Empire mines in Michigan and the United Taconite and Hibbing Taconite mines in Minnesota.

Cliffs Chairman, President and CEO Lourenco Goncalves says the company acknowledges the sacrifices of its employees during recent tough times. He says now that the industry is prospering, Cliffs is looking to give workers their fair share.

If ratified by the union, the contract would take effect October 1, 2018.
