Committee votes to keep current school administrator evaluation standards

ANN ARBOR, MI (MPRN)--   Future Michigan school administrator evaluations will probably not put a greater emphasis on student growth.

The percentage of the evaluation tied to student test scores is set to increase this year to 40 percent.

But the House Education Reform Committee Thursday voted to keep it at its current 25 percent.

Peter Spadafore is the executive director of the Michigan Association of School Administrators.

“If nearly one half of the evaluation is based on student growth, the other factors in instructional leadership are overshadowed. And we risk creating an environment where testing is the only thing that matters,” he says.

Legislation to keep the current standards for teacher and school administrator evaluations has bi-partisan support and is expected to pass this year.
