Coronavirus surge seen in U.P.

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Upper Peninsula added 308 new confirmed coronavirus cases and five deaths to its total Wednesday.

The number per county is as follows:

  • Baraga: 7
  • Chippewa: 10
  • Delta: 85
  • Dickinson: 38
  • Gogebic: 5
  • Houghton: 9
  • Iron: 12
  • Luce: 48
  • Mackinac: 1
  • Marquette: 32
  • Menominee: 22
  • Ontonagon: 29
  • Schoolcraft: 10

One death was reported in Delta County, two in Dickinson and two in Marquette County.
As of Wednesday afternoon a total of 6,835 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.P. Officials say 139 people have died.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
