COVID-19 prompts MTU to move instruction online

HOUGHTON, MI--   Michigan Technological University is transitioning to remote instruction only for lecture-based classes until October 12.

Because of a surge in the number of area COVID-19 cases the school has risen to Health and Safety Level Four on its Return to Campus Protocol. Classes will be taught online for two weeks starting no later than Wednesday. Instructors will contact students regarding the modality of their lab, Senior Design, Enterprise, and other experiential-based courses. Outdoor gatherings are now limited to no more than 25 people.

The library, SDC, dining halls, transportation services, and other student support offices will remain operational.

All K-12 schools in Houghton County have moved to online learning due to the spike in coronavirus cases.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
