Crash temporarily closes US-41 in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   US-41 at Shiras Hills was closed for a while Thursday morning because of a traffic crash near Tonti Road.

Marquette Police say around 8:45 a.m. a northbound vehicle driven by Edward Gudewicz, 67, of Skandia crossed the centerline and hit a southbound vehicle driven by Bonnie Tennant, 59, of Negaunee.

Both drivers were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of unknown injuries.

US-41 south traffic was diverted to Lake Street while officials cleared the scene.

Police say speed and conditions were likely factors in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
