CTE Skills Challenge to take place at Northern Michigan University

MARQUETTE, MI--   High School students from across the Upper Peninsula will converge at NMU’s Jacobetti Complex Friday to take part in this year’s Career and Technical Education Skills Challenge.

Students will compete in challenges centered on five skills: construction, welding, automotive, computer aided drafting, and, for the first time, culinary skills.

Throughout the day, CTE teachers will participate in professional development sessions focused on best practices in safety, curriculum, instruction, and college and career preparation.   

The day will culminate with awards in the Jacobetti Commons for each of the competitions.  The Automotive Skills awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m., the Welding Skills awards at 2:15 p.m., the Computer Aided Drafting Skills awards Basic CAD at noon and Advanced CAD at 3:00 p.m., the Culinary skills awards at 3:15 p.m. and the Construction Skills awards at 5:00 p.m.

Activities begin at 9 a.m. at the Jacobetti Complex. The public is encouraged to attend.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
