Cut River Bridge to reopen later than expected

MACKINAC COUNTY, MI--   The reopening of the Cut River Bridge on US-2 in Mackinac County has been delayed four weeks.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has been performing structural steel repairs, painting, and expansion joint repairs. It was supposed to reopen September 15, but contractors encountered more deteriorated steel than originally anticipated. That meant adding work, along with delays for fabrication.

Eastbound and westbound US-2 remains closed at the Cut River Bridge. The detour route is about 3.6 miles.

The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic October 18.
