Delta County accident injures two

MASONVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people are hospitalized following a two-vehicle accident in Delta County Sunday. 

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 6:45 p.m. on County 513 T Road near the Little Bay de Noc Campground.  Deputies say a vehicle driven by Orville Pederson, 85, of Rapid River crossed the centerline and hit a vehicle driven by David Hanes, 69, of Rapid River. 

Pederson was transported by Valley Med Flight to U.P. Health System Marquette.  Hanes and a passenger were taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital by ambulance.  Hanes was later released, while his passenger and Pederson remain hospitalized. 

The accident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Rampart EMS, Masonville Fire/EMS, Valley Med Flight, and TKL Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
