Dirt bike rider hit by vehicle in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   An Escanaba man is hospitalized, after his dirt bike was hit by a truck in Delta County.

State Police from the Gladstone Post say the accident happened Wednesday around 4 p.m. on 18th Road near Danforth Road.  A dirt bike driven by a 24-year-old man was crossing 18th Road when he failed to yield to a pickup truck that was traveling eastbound.

The driver of the bike was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital, then transferred to UP Health System Marquette for further treatment.  Neither the driver of the pickup, a 15-year-old girl from Bark River, nor her passenger were injured.

Troopers say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
