DNR moves meeting on deer regulation changes

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources is moving one of its public listening sessions from Alger County to Menominee County.

DNR officials will hear public comment on proposed deer regulation changes in the Upper Peninsula because of Chronic Wasting Disease. Recommended changes include a deer baiting and feeding ban in a Core CWD Surveillance Area, which includes portions of Menominee, Dickinson and Delta counties. The zone surrounds the farm where a deer tested positive for the deadly disease in October 2018.

The DNR’s June 10 listening session has been moved from Wetmore to the conference center at the Turtle Room at the Island Conference Center in Harris. It will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.

The change of venue was requested to provide a location within the Core CWD Surveillance Area.
