DNR, SOS suspend some operations

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources has closed state park campgrounds, overnight lodging facilities and shelters through at least April 13.

State parks and recreation areas are staying open so residents can get out of the house and enjoy nature, but camping reservations for dates between March 23 and April 13 will automatically be canceled. Reservation holders will receive full refunds.

Secretary of State branch offices are also closed at this time. In-person transactions and renewals by mail are unavailable.

Officials say late fees will be waived for license registration expirations that have occurred since the Secretary of State shifted operations on March 16.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says absent voter ballot applications will be mailed to all voters in the May 5 election. The state will include a cover letter that voting by mail is the optimal way to cast a ballot due to the public health crisis.
