Downstate man hits trailer with snowmobile in Alger County

MELSTRAND, MI--   The Alger County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another car/snowmobile accident.

It happened Saturday around 9:50 a.m. on H-58, approximately two miles east of Melstrand.

Officials say Travis Ross, 37, of Charlotte, was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed when he struck a snowmobile trailer being towed by a pickup truck. Ross was ejected from his machine and landed about 100 feet from the point of impact.

Ross was taken to UPHS-Marquette, where he remains in stable condition.

Deputies say excessive speed and careless operation are the main contributing factors to the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
