Driver cited for going too fast before US-41 crash

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Speed and icy road conditions are to blame for a two-vehicle crash in Marquette Township Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 7:40 a.m. to US-41 at County Road HQ. They say Tracie Dietz, 33, of Negaunee was stopped on the highway at a yellow light, waiting to turn north onto HQ. Another eastbound vehicle driven by Kristin Marana, 35, slid on the icy roadway and hit the Dietz vehicle.

Dietz was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Marana was cited for violation of the basic speed limit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
