Driver in fatal Delta County crash found guilty

ESCANABA, MI--   A jury has found a Wetmore teen guilty of four felonies in connection with a fatal crash near Schaffer last June.

The Escanaba Daily Press reports Dalton Carll, 19, was convicted Thursday of reckless driving, causing death and three counts of reckless driving, causing serious injury to others.

The charges stem from a June 17 incident in which Carll was westbound in a pickup with six passengers on Felch Grade Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at E.5 Road.  He hit a southbound car driven by John Miron, 29, of Bark River.  Miron was killed in the crash.  Miron’s passenger and two of Carll’s passengers suffered serious injuries.

The jury reached a verdict after deliberating less than two hours.

Carll faces up to 30 years in prison on the charges.

Sentencing is set for May 18 in Delta County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
