Drug charges pending against duo found asleep in vehicle in Escanaba parking lot

ESCANABA, MI--   Two Houghton residents were arrested after they were found asleep in their car with a baby in the back seat in the Escanaba Walmart parking lot.

Public Safety officers were dispatched around 1:05 a.m. Monday to the scene. They had to make several attempts to wake the two adults, who seemed to be in distress. Rampart EMS evaluated all occupants but found no medical conditions.

A K9 unit from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office indicated drugs were in the vehicle. Officers discovered about 40 grams of crystal meth, a scale, more than 90 small plastic baggies, and a glass pipe.

The driver, Ashley Reilly, 21, was arrested for possession of meth and child neglect. Passenger Ryan Timko, 33, was arrested on two outstanding warrants out of Houghton County.

The eight-month-old baby was turned over to Child Protective Services.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
