Drugs/alcohol may be factors in Chocolay crash, officials say

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was taken to the hospital, following a head-on crash in Chocolay Township.

Chocolay Police responded around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday to M-28 near Lakewood Lane. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment. The driver of the westbound vehicle was not injured.

Officers say alcohol and controlled substances are believed to be factors in the crash. The driver of the westbound vehicle was arrested at the scene. Charges are being sought against both drivers for driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
