Drunk driving blamed for Iron Mountain crash

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle rollover accident in Iron Mountain Sunday.

Iron Mountain police and fire officials were dispatched around 9:10 p.m. to US-2 and East Hughitt Street. They say a 28-year-old man was eastbound on Hughitt in a pickup truck when he failed to stop for the sign at US-2. His vehicle was broadsided by a second pickup that was northbound on the highway. The truck that ran the sign rolled over onto its side.

The 28-year-old was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol—high blood alcohol content. He remains lodged in the Dickinson County Jail.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and Breitung Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
