Drunk driving blamed for Marquette Township crash

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Marquette woman has been arrested for causing a three-vehicle accident in Marquette Township.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies were called Thursday around 5:30 p.m. to US-41 West near Commerce Drive. They say two vehicles were stopped at a red light at the intersection. A green Ford passenger car driven by a Marquette woman failed to stop for the light and rear-ended a red pickup truck. The truck was propelled into the rear of a brown passenger car also stopped at the light.

Deputies say the driver of the Ford was under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and lodged at the Marquette County Jail for operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor – high blood alcohol content.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Marquette City Police, NMU Public Safety and Police Services, UPHS-Marquette EMS, and Marquette Township Fire and Rescue.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
