Duncan Township snowmobile accident injures girl

DUNCAN TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Illinois girl was injured in a snowmobile accident in Houghton County Thursday. 

Sheriff’s deputies say it happened around 1:45 p.m. near Sidnaw in Duncan Township.  The 14-year-old girl from Fox Lake was traveling northbound with a group of snowmobilers on Trail #8/15 when she lost control of her machine and left the trail.  The girl was ejected from the snowmobile and injured her hip and leg. 

The victim was taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse for treatment of her injuries. 

Covington Township EMS assisted at the scene.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
